Playing Hard to Get

If you’ve been reading since the beginning, you know that we’re all about the gray.

We need a new sofa for the living room. Currently we have an old IKEA leather sofa from my old apartment. The seat cushions don’t come off (which is a pain when we try to vacuum!) and it causes Nick to sweat. And it just doesn’t match our vision for the room.

Our requirements for the new sofa:

1. It has to be gray, preferably a darker gray than our walls

2. It has to look cool and cute and not too boring (my requirement)

3. It has to be a sectional (Nick’s requirement)

4. It can’t cost $8,000 (our bank’s requirement)

It is very easy to find a tan sofa. Very easy! They’re everywhere. White and brown, pretty easy. Gray? Not that easy… these are the top four options that we’ve found so far, there’s not much options out there.

What do you think? Do you know of other places that we could check out?

  1. Troy sectional – crate and barrel!! I think they look so nice in your living room! oxoxo

  2. I like the Clarke and Troy sectional. πŸ™‚

The Clarke has a feel of class in it- especially its legs. That, I love!

However, the Troy has a great end seater where you can put your feet up… and it looks very warm and cozy. That, I like too! πŸ™‚

For me, it’s a tie of both. It depends on what kind of look you are looking for. I think the Troy is more practical if you do decide to have children someday. It just looks more family friendly.

    Hope I’ve helped! πŸ™‚

  3. They all look pretty. A tip from my experience; avoid couches with thin armrests cos sometimes, out of habit, guests will sit on the armrest and it eventually will wear out and break.

  4. Agree, I like the Troy one, too- but Rachy got a good point.. hmm
Quickly googled- and found this comfy one.

  5. Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts! The Troy is more classic and simple and would go along with any decor, in case we decide to redecorate later or move to another house… but the Clarke is so cool. However, we can’t really give the Clarke the sit-down-test because there’s not a Room & Board store near around here. I wish there was something in-between the Troy and the Clarke… Here’s hoping something pops up soon. But we’ll be paying Crate & Barrel another visit soon to test out the Troy once again.

Very true about the armrests though. I will admit that I am guilty of sitting on them sometimes. But not at my home… I wonder why… perhaps because the end tables are in the way? Maybe that is the secret πŸ™‚

    Tawny, that is a nice sofa!! But a bit small… Dang… We need a L-shaped sectional…

  6. End tables, bingo! πŸ˜‰

  7. ooooh, that Room and Board sectional is gorgeous. It’s my top pick πŸ™‚ Looks like it’s charcoal enough to really ground the room, too. Fun stuff!

  8. i dont know why but you said you wanted a couch that was darker than your walls? im really liking the bo concept one. i dont think you’d see that visiting just about anyone! πŸ™‚

  9. i really like the bo one for some reason- looks more “deaf-friendly” lol..

  10. I think you should check out Ikea. YoungHouseLove.com just got their sectional. Check it out:

    • Yepp – their sectional looks FAB! Love it! We found a great gray sectional off Craig’s List a while back so we’re happy with it for now, but if in the future we need a new one, we’ll probably go the IKEA route as well πŸ™‚ Thanks!
